Ori Estate Tilapia Farm 2006

The SAFF-RAS at Ori Estate provided a total effective fish rearing volume of 96.5m-3 capable of producing 25,000 kg per annum on a maximum daily Feed Allotment of 90kg day-1 which translates into almost 1 kg feed per m-3 of system rearing volume per day.

A double series of IFF 563m-2 RBC’s (fully floating) follow a standard Lamella Separator (LS) and a fully floating SAFF-13 foam fractionator follows the RBC’s in the sequence of water reconditioning components within the inner tank of the SAFF-RAS. Two SAFF-38LPS pull water through the central water reconditioning system via a head differential (total system head loss) of just 80mm. Further side-stream (external to the main system) water treatments can be added to include Denitrification (DN) filtration, ozone followed by UV irradiation to enable higher degrees of water reuse.

Two banks of three SAFF-120 airlift aerators provide the needed oxygen transfer to hold > 65% of saturation and carbon dioxide stripping reduces levels to less than 15mg L-1. The last function of the tri-functional airlift aerators includes controllable horizontal water velocities of around 15 - 40 cm sec-1

The design air supply just short of 1000m-3 hr-1 when supplied by a 3kW High Speed Centrifugal Blower (HSCB) enables the energy efficient production of tilapia using 1.05kWh per kg-1 of fish purportedly among the most energy efficient RAS in the world raising table sized tilapia.
